Miss Chain of Lakes’ Teen Sophia Motl would love to get everyone writing down their thoughts. Her social impact initiative, Jot Your Thought, helps people get in the habit of capturing their ideas on paper. Why is it important? As you make your thoughts visible, it helps to sort out feelings, reduce depression, improve relationships, and improve your overall quality of life. Sophia has been using this as an outlet for herself for as long as she can remember. While this form of personal expression can help people of all ages, her work as a titleholder will focus on providing young people with an introduction to journaling as a fun daily habit. She seeks funds and donations to gift over 1,000 journals to school children in Minnesota.
Sophia’s journaling has benefited her in many ways. She captures ideas for essays, poems, songs, and projects in her daily writing. She won first place in her local VFW Voice of Democracy speech competition and an honorable mention in the “We the Students Essay Contest" sponsored by the Bill of Rights organization. She interns as a news correspondent with Pasquines, a non-profit focused on bringing local issues to the national conversation and national issues to local consideration. All of these experiences motivate her toward her goal of becoming the White House Press Secretary. Music and dance have been part of her life from a young age. 2021 marked 10 years as a piano performer. She competes as an Irish dancer with her twin sister. She was a semi-finalist as a vocalist in the 2022 Minnesota State Fair Amateur Talent Contest. Her piano/vocal performance at the January 2023 Miss Chain of Lakes/Miss Capital City competition earned her the top talent award. Sophia believes that you can never have too many blankets, especially when you are curled up at home reading a good book or writing in your journal. Not surprisingly, her favorite classes in school are writing and history. She is a PSEO student at Crown College, where she carries a 4.0 GPA. |
