Rachel Eron is a 2020 graduate from the University of Minnesota: Twin Cities with a Bachelor of Industrial and Systems Engineering and second major in Computer Science. She currently works as a Quality Engineer II at Surmodics Inc, a medical device manufacturer located in Eden Prairie, MN. She is a Minneapolis homeowner, dog mom, and Miss River Valley 2022.
During Rachel's time at UMN she was involved in Collegiate Synchronized Skating, 3-D printing and Solidworks labs, and was a teaching assistant for both python and project management courses. She worked with a team at the Institute for Engineering in Medicine to 3-D print a young boy a workable prosthetic arm, confirming her desire to change the world with innovation. Rachel was co-president of Minnovate, a student group based on innovation and connecting students to industry faster. She created the Minnovate Industry Readiness Program; a semester-long weekly course teaching students prototyping and project skills. This program has seen continued success as it enters its fifth year, and Rachel returns for events often as an industry mentor. After college graduation, Rachel began work at Beckman Coulter as a Global Quality Analyst II. She worked with teams located in California and Germany to solve problems and implement new solutions surrounding electronic signatures and records. In January 2022 she started working at Surmodics, a start-up environment bringing vascular intervention solutions to market. She loves working in a creative, fast-paced environment and having the ability to wear many hats, all while creating products to save lives. Since her youth, Rachel has been fascinated with how things work and wants to instill that curiosity in all through her social impact, STEMing Creativity, Growing Innovation. She has volunteered with Girls Inc, InSciEd Out, and more, teaching science concepts to young people in the Twin Cities area. She has spoken about her SII at MathCounts competitions, Rotary groups, and local libraries. Rachel created science content for Public Access TV and hosts Science Parties, reaching people across the state of Minnesota and exciting an interest in STEM everywhere she goes. In her free time, Rachel loves to play with her dog Pepper, garden, and work on DIY house projects. She stays active by playing volleyball, rock climbing, and swimming with the Minnesota Loons, an underwater hockey team. On the off chance you'd find her sitting down, Rachel relaxes with a coloring book and a good audiobook. |
