Leah was born and raised in the city of Coon Rapids, and is the daughter of David and Gayle Mau. After graduating high school, Leah chose to enlist in the Minnesota Army National Guard and completed her military training at Fort Jackson as her company’s Distinguished Honor graduate in the Spring of 2018. Now that she’s home, Leah is enjoying spending time with her friends and family before she starts school this fall at the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management.
Leah’s dedication to her platform, the American Cancer Society: Blankets of Hope, started at a young age after her father’s first diagnosis with cancer. Throughout her life she has raised thousands of dollars for the American Cancer Society, while also creating hand made tie-blankets for cancer patients to comfort them during their treatments. As of this year, Leah has helped in donating over 100 tie-blankets to patients in local Minnesotan facilities such as the Gillette Children’s Hospital, the Minneapolis Ronald McDonald House, and Hope Lodges across the state of Minnesota. Leah plans to continue her service for the America Cancer Society long after she is no longer competing in the Miss Minnesota Organization.
