Sarah Labine is the 20-year- old daughter of Cynthia McDonough and
Jon Labine. Sarah is currently a Sophomore at North Dakota State University majoring in Biomedical Animal Science with a minor in Equine Science and Agriculture Business. Aside from her studies Sarah is a member of the NDSU University Chamber Singers and the NDSU Rodeo Club, as well as THON an organization through NDSU that raises funds for CMN.
Sarah has been singing ever since she can remember from the Holy Rosary Church Choir, Detroit Lakes Concert Choir, Detroit Lakes Laker Singers, and now currently a member of the NDSU Auditioned University Chamber Singers. Sarah had the honor in 2016 of being conducted by Eric Whitacre a Grammy-winning American composer, conductor, and speaker, known for his choral, orchestral and wind ensemble music, also known for his "Virtual Choir" projects, bringing individual voices from around the globe together into an online choir. Sarah enjoys performing all different styles such as blues, classical, pop, and country and cannot wait for her vocal performance at the Miss Minnesota 2017 pageant.
As an individual who once battled high levels of depression and suicidal thoughts, Sarah has come to realize how serious suicide and depression truly is especially in the teenage and adolescent years. From her personal experience with these issues Sarah has formed her platform: Combating Teenage Depression & Suicide to help lower the nearly tripled percentage of suicide deaths, and to emphasize the importance of self-worth starting in the younger years. Sarah is an advocate for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and is an active speaker within school districts of all ages, organizations, and youth groups.
