Emma Vrieze, Miss Great River 2024, is a graduate of Park Rapids, Minnesota. She is a Freshman at Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM) and is pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing with a Minor in Psychology. She plans to return to school after her Bachelor’s Degree to become a Certified Nurse Practitioner. Emma has always loved being around other people. Nursing focuses on patient care, and Emma cannot wait to serve others in that role.
Growing up, Emma was a part of the choir and sang frequently at church. She has enjoyed being able to sing for her family, friends, and congregation. She loves everything to do with music, especially 70s and 80s rock. In middle school, Emma taught herself how to play the ukulele along with playing trumpet in the band. Emma’s Community Service Initiative is titled Swim With Knowledge: Water Safety. Emma enjoys spending time in the water. She learned how to water ski at a young age and now skis on a water ski team in Park Rapids, serving as the Costume Director for their shows. In middle school and high school, Emma was a competitive swimmer. She earned 4 trips to the State Tournament. Throughout those years, she trained to become a lifeguard. While Emma was learning CPR, First Aid, and other rescue techniques, her passion for water safety began. Since then, she has taught public and private swimming lessons to children of all ages, focusing on teaching basic life-saving skills like back-float and treading water. She encourages her students to be safe in the water, know their limits, and wear life jackets. Emma is planning an event to give away free life jackets to children in her hometown. Life jackets play a critical role in preventing drowning accidents and are crucial for keeping children safe in the water. Emma has taken steps to ensure she is doing her part in advocating for water safety and drowning prevention. She is a “Water Watchdog” with a charitable foundation in Minnesota called “Abbey’s Hope.” Emma is also a member of the National Drowning Prevention Alliance (NDPA). These organizations have made it their goal to prevent drowning and other water-related accidents. Emma’s goal: keep people of all ages safe in the “Land of 10,000 Lakes.” |
