Community Service Initiative - Sixty-Second Difference
Every seven seconds, someone calls 911 across the country. As a Paramedic, Alexis Lombard knows how important those seconds are in an emergency. That’s why she created the Sixty-Second Difference, encouraging Minnesotans to take action through lifesaving education and first responder engagement. From her first time calling 911 for her dad at 13 to responding to the emergencies of 1.2 million Minnesotans, Alexis knows it takes courage to take action. Sixty-Second Difference helps people find that courage. When speaking to non-profit leaders, kids at touch-a-truck events, or elected officials from the state to the U.S. Capitol, Alexis spreads a powerful message: seconds save lives. From classrooms learning about Narcan, to Fox 9 viewers learning Hands-Only CPR, to the Miss Minnesota stage demonstrating how to use a tourniquet—Sixty-Second Difference motivates action. Alexis has partnered with groups like the American Heart Association – Minnesota, local fire departments, and HOSA – Minnesota to reach people across the state. She believes lifesaving goes far beyond the ambulance—and Sixty-Second Difference is here to make that possible. All About Alexis A practicing paramedic, heart survivor, and political scientist, that’s Alexis Lombard. At her core, Alexis is someone with a heart for medicine. Alexis Lombard is an emergency open-heart surgery and congenital heart defect (Total Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Return) survivor. As a heart survivor, she aspires to make more heart survivors. The partnership with Miss America and the American Heart Association made that possible! Alexis has been empowered to share her heart story, showcase what a realistic heart-healthy lifestyle looks like, and teach lifesaving skills as an American Heart Association (AHA) instructor. A 2025 Woman of Impact Nominee for the AHA - Minnesota, Alexis amplified the mission of both organizations and advocated for a cause near and dear to her heart. A practicing Paramedic, Alexis Lombard, puts the “service” in the service point of the Miss America crown. She began her journey in Emergency Medical Services in 2016 by enrolling in an Emergency Medical Technician course through the Opportunities in Emergency Care program. And, what an opportunity that became! For nearly a decade, Alexis has volunteered, educated, and served as an EMS practitioner. She has served the Chicago Metropolitan Area during COVID-19, provided care with Solid Rock International in the Dominican Republic, educated nearly 500 students on emergency skills, and acted as a representative of her Ambulance Service at local outreach events. She obtained her Paramedic AS through Century College with the generous educational scholarships awarded through competing in the Miss Minnesota Scholarship Organization. Today, as a nationally licensed Paramedic with 18 specialized certifications, Alexis has the privilege to serve in Hennepin County, MN. Thousands of emergencies, too many stories to count, and two lifesaver awards later, Alexis still has a heart for medicine. Alexis can be found outside the ambulance at a local coffee shop finishing her Political Science BA or preparing to apply to Medical School. Coffee shops are where she does her best work (with a half-finished coffee, of course) and where she began. In 2021, Alexis was ready to pursue a degree in Political Science after seeing firsthand how legislation impacts health outcomes. At Viator Coffee in Elgin, IL, she scrolled upon a post about scholarship opportunities and signed up for her first Miss Minnesota local! The scholarships awarded equipped her to pursue two degrees simultaneously and invest in her long-term dream of Medical School. And, Miss Minnesota has empowered her even more! As a local titleholder, the Miss America mission is true for Alexis. “Empowering Women to Lead” has empowered her to lead in tactical boots on emergency scenes and the iconic, sparkly crown at the heart of Minnesota’s communities. First responders, kids, coworkers, organizations, local Miss America sisters, volunteers, and community members across the nation have fueled her enthusiasm and optimism for EMS, lifesaving, and her journey in the Miss America Opportunity. She has been blessed to grow as a public speaker, create lifelong friendships, and represent a cause greater than herself in the organization. Alexis is ready for the year ahead and the opportunity to represent the Brainerd Lakes Area on the Miss Minnesota stage!
