Emma Vrieze, Miss Glacial Waters, is a junior nursing student at Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM). She is set to graduate next July with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a minor in psychology.
Miss Glacial Waters is an advocate for water safety and drowning prevention. Her love for the water began at a young age—she was always skiing, tubing, and swimming at the lake! She was a competitive swimmer for 12 years and earned her lifeguard certification, working as a lifeguard for 3 years. Emma also taught swimming lessons for 5 years, instructing over 1,000 kids! She worked as a pool manager last summer, leading swim clubs and overseeing swimming lessons. With the opportunity from the Miss Minnesota Organization and her initiative, Swim With Knowledge: Water Safety, she’s been able to donate lifejackets to 20 mentees in her hometown, educate over 1,200 children, parents, and guardians about water safety and provide them with valuable water safety materials. She serves as a Water Safety Champion through the National Drowning Prevention Alliance, a Water Safety Ambassador with the American Red Cross, and a Water Watchdog with Abbey’s Hope, a Minnesota based charitable foundation. |
