Miss Capital City Muira MacRae promotes the Social Impact Initiative Body Confidence in Young Women to highlight the importance of showing young women that they can feel beautiful, confident, and strong in their own bodies. She believes that society puts a lot of pressure on women to look and feel a certain way about their bodies, and that can create a negative body image which has the potential to lead to many physical and mental health problems later in life. As someone who has recovered from eating disorders related to negative body image, Muira teaches about holistic health and recognizing both physical and mental health as steps to learning to love our bodies. She wants to continue sharing her story with young women, in hopes of preventing them from going through the same things she did. She believes that “beauty starts on the inside, confidence is having the courage to let it show on the outside.”

Muira is a senior at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, where she will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Development this spring. She is passionate about helping others and it is her dream to work with nonprofit organizations setting up their volunteer and fundraising programs. Muira has had the opportunity to work for several organizations in the Twin Cities communities over the last three years. She gained experience with volunteers and interns working at the Minnesota Historical Society, working in HR at Sunrise Banks and she currently helps to organize and plan large downtown events for the Minneapolis Downtown Council. Coordination responsibilities range from event registration through the management of over 200 volunteers. She feels very fortunate and excited to be learning about and involved with the communities in which we live.

Muira believes in the power of storytelling and laughter and she looks forward to bringing that to the Miss Minnesota stage through her comedy bit. She wants to show people that they can find joy in even the silliest of things, and hopes to inspire people to truly be their authentic selves. When she is not making people laugh, Muira enjoys reading and writing, cooking, spending as much time as possible traveling, exploring and going on adventures, and spending time with her two adorable cats, her friends, and her family. She is so excited to share her story, her message, her joy and her laughter with you this June on the Miss Minnesota stage.
