Not only is she ambitious in the classroom, she is a Captain on the Speech Team, where she competes in multiple categories from Humor to Drama. Last season she qualified for state and earned the Coaches Choice Award. Annika is currently campaigning for the position of Student Council President for the 2018-2019 school year. Other activities she's involved in include, Swimming, Diving, Track, Interact (student led service group), Concert Choir, Swing Choir, and St Henry's Youth Choir. She was also nominated by her teachers to be a Class Representative for Perham High School's Site Council. Her talent is singing anything from musical theater to Italian Opera. She has been awarded multiple Superior rankings at State Music Competitions for solo, ensemble and treble choir and has had the esteemed honor of participating in the Windy City Music Festival in Chicago.
Annika's platform is Creating Generation Healthy. She loves sharing her joy for nutrition and physical activity, by speaking to the hearts of others, including community leaders, teachers, childcare associations, parents, and children of all ages. She promotes her easy two step plan called "ME", "M" is Move More and "E" is Eat Real. Her goal is to create lifelong, healthy habits for children, by encouraging them to get 60 minutes of active play every day and to make healthy eating choices.
To encourage kids to move more she has produced children's workout videos called Active with Annika, volunteers regularly as an activities leader at Great Beginnings Child Care, has spent many hours as a volunteer coach at PRYD Gymnastics, and partnered with Girl Scouts in teaching young girls the MAOTeen fitness routine. To inspire kids to eat real, she created a program called Little Sprouts Garden Gang, which partners with childcare facilities, providing free vegetable seeds and program information for them to plant gardens with the children. This summer she is partnering with over 100 childcares in 21 different states, with a goal of reaching all 50 states by 2019. In addition, Annika has led thousands of students in the MyPlate Pledge and published her own Children's Book, Come and Plant a Garden with Me; sales from the book are donated to CMN and Creating Generation Healthy.
Because of her hard work ethic and compassion for others, Annika chose to become a lifelong volunteer at an early age; earning herself numerous awards and scholarships including the prestigious Presidents Volunteer Service Award, Miss Minnesota Outstanding Teen Service Award and The Duke of Edinburgh Award. She has volunteered thousands of hours with over 30 service organizations and is an active member of Perham's Community Wellness, and excited to be partnered with The Alliance for a Healthier Generation, Minnesota's State-wide Health Improvement Program (SHIP), MyPlate and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Annika is proud of the impact she has made so far with the Miss Minnesota Outstanding Teen Organization, and looks forward to representing her home state, as Miss Minnesota's Outstanding Teen 2018.
