She competes in multiple categories on her varsity speech team and qualified for state which earned her the Coaches Choice Award. In choir she was awarded Superior ranking for both solo and ensemble, qualifying for State.
Annika's platform is Creating Generation Healthy. She chose her platform after suffering a serious concussion during gymnastics in 7th grade, resulting in her not being able to be active for nearly six months until her symptoms cleared. Through that journey, Annika learned first hand the impact that lack of activity and can have on you. Now she shares her message with children and encourages them to engage in at least 60 minutes of active play each day, and to make healthy eating choices, by following her easy two step plan called "ME," the "M" is for Move More and the "E" is for Eat Real. In addition, Annika created an organization called "Little Sprouts Garden Gang," which partners with child care homes throughout the state providing free seeds and program information to plant gardens with children. This summer her Organization "sprouted" as she is currently partnered with 35 childcare homes in 21 different cities throughout Minnesota. Some of Annika's other accomplishments include being a student representative for Perham's Community Wellness, producing children's exercise videos, called "Fit Kids Get Active with Annika," volunteering regularly as an activities leader at Great Beginnings Child Care, and as a youth gymnastics coach.
As a result of her numerous community service hours, Annika been awarded the Duke of Edinburgh Award and as well as the President's Volunteer Service Award.
Annika's future plans include finishing high school with honors, then attending college to pursue a career in Neurology, specializing in concussion recovery. You can follow Annika and her journey to becoming Miss Minnesota's Outstanding Teen at https://www.facebook.com/missannikakovar/
