Courtney Igbo-Ogbonna is a 2015 Cum Laude graduate of Minnesota State University, Mankato and studied Mass Media with an emphasis in Public Relations with minors in communication studies and leisure planning management. Courtney was crowned the 2017 Miss Central Minnesota in late November and will be representing the central Minnesota region at Miss Minnesota in June 2017. She is the 23-year-old daughter of Gladys Igbo and the late George Ogbonna.
With a passion for education, Courtney will spend her year promoting her platform, Destination Diploma that focuses on the success and access in higher education for students that are typically underrepresented. Being a student that fell into this status of not graduating high school herself to graduating with honors from a reputable university, Courtney plans to spend her year in the classrooms sharing her story to hopefully inspire others. Courtney and her family also are in the works of creating a scholarship fund for these students to assist with financing their education.
Courtney has been classically trained in many different art forms including piano, theater, ballet, percussion, and violin. She chooses to perform a comedic monologue because theater for her has been the hardest to perfect the necessary skills. Courtney enjoys bringing joy to other by making them laugh and introducing them to characters that is unlike herself. In her free time, Courtney enjoys spending time with her friends and family, traveling, volunteering, and of course a light Netflix session every now and then!
