Miss Minnesota 2014 - Savannah Cole

Eden Prairie, MN. Savannah Cole was crowned Miss Minnesota 2014 Saturday night at Eden Prairie HS Performing Arts Center. She is the 19-year old daughter of Rick and Deb Cole and native of Brainerd. Savannah carried the title of Miss Southern Valley before being crowned Miss Minnesota 2014, one night after she turned 19 years old.

Savannah will be a Junior at North Dakota State University where she is majoring in Exercise Science with the intent to pursue a career as a Physical Therapist. At the Miss Minnesota competition, Savannah won not only the preliminary talent award for her vocal rendition of “The House of the Rising Sun,” but also won the preliminary swimsuit award and overall interview awards. In addition to being an accomplished vocalist, Savannah has been active in Community Theater since the age of 4, participating in 18 plays. She teaches violin and has been a figure skater for 13 years.

Ms. Cole’s service platform is entitled “Epilepsy: Bringing it Out of the Shadow.” She will work this year to inform and increase awareness of epilepsy; erase the stereotypes surrounding epilepsy; and promote epilepsy education in schools. Epilepsy education entails having youth participate in mock seizures and how to react when someone is having an epileptic seizure. In central Minnesota Savannah has spoken to several service groups and over 7,000 youth and teens about epilepsy. Her seizure education video has been viewed by over 10,000 students and she founded and organized a fundraising event called ‘Curling for a Cause’ that benefited the Epilepsy Foundation. The event raised $10,500 for the Minnesota Epilepsy Foundation. In addition to her service platform, Savannah will be the Minnesota spokesperson for Children’s Miracle Network, the national platform of the Miss America Organization.

Savannah competed against 24 other women for the title of Miss Minnesota 2014. The fourth runner-up was Miss St. Paul, Rachel Latuff; third runner up was Miss Central Lakes, Lauren Johnson; second runner-up was Kate Wilson, Miss Rochester; first runner up was Chantal Wilson, Miss Northwest. Over $20,000 in educational scholarships were awarded at this year’s pageant among the 25 contestants.

The Miss Minnesota Scholarship Pageant is an official preliminary to the Miss America Pageant, which is the largest provider of scholarship assistance to young women in the world.
